It may be stormy season at the moment in the UK but for some of our clients windy weather is a good thing. The wind energy market is proving particularly popular for Majorfax at present and we have recently secured another order for integral castings for a series of offshore wind turbines.
As an island nation our geography leaves the UK well positioned to be able to benefit from wave, tidal and wind energy. This also means that we can keep traditional casting and finishing skills alive by applying them to this relatively new market sector.
Whilst Majorfax have been supplying castings to the renewables market for a number of years, in the last 6 months we have seen a 45% increase in orders from this sector.
The wind energy sector in the UK is growing and according to Renewable UK, the UK has been the world leader in offshore wind since 2008, with as much capacity already installed as the rest of the world combined. There are currently 27 offshore wind projects around the UK with over 1400 turbines and Majorfax are proud to have provided castings for some of these.
