Ferrous Castings – Grey Iron, SG Iron, Ductile Iron, Steel, Stainless Steel in the UK

Grey iron – up to 5000 Kg

(BS EN 1561 Grades 150, 200 & 250)

Grey Iron ss the most widely used ‘cast iron’. It lends itself to many applications from domestic appliances through to heavy industry. It combines strength and machinability with practicality and competitiveness.

We can also offer alloyed irons such as Ni-Hard and Ni-Resist for resistance to impact and wear.

Spheriodal graphite iron – up to 2000 Kg

(BS EN 1563 Grades 400/15, 450/10, 500/7, 600/3 & 700/2)

Commonly known as ‘SG’ or ductile cast iron is often used where parts need to take a load or need to be impact resistant. SG Iron is also a suitable alternative to Malleable Iron in many cases.

In addition, we can also offer Austempered Ductile Iron.

Steel (BS3100)

Carbon Steel A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 & A6 – up to 5000 Kg
High Tensile Steel BT1, BT2 & BT3 – up to 2000 Kg
Stainless Steel 304 and 316 – up to 5000 Kg

Cast steel has many different properties such as wear resistance and high tensile strength. Its applications are varied including where extreme temperatures and conditions are encountered.  Steel also lends itself to casting processes such as sand and investment (lost wax).

304 and 316 are typical grades in the most common group of stainless steel castings – austenitic stainless steels.  These grades exhibit characteristics of castability, weldability and corrosion resistance*

Alloyed steels for various applications are also offered.

*IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CORROSION RESISTANCE OF STAINLESS STEELS:

Despite what the name implies, ‘stainless steel’ castings are ‘stain-less’ and not ‘stain-impossible’.  Under certain conditions corrosion can happen in varying degrees.  Careful selection of material grade, final surface finishes and treatments at design stage is important to achieve application requirements.
